Travis Toth Joins GLOBE International Scientist Network
Atmospheric Sciences Ph.D. student, Travis Toth, has been approved as a GLOBE program Scientist. The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based science and education program. GLOBE Scientists mentor students and teachers, present scientific ideas, and/or collaborate on scientific research. Travis said he has become involved because “I enjoy working with younger people and getting them interested in science. As an undergraduate, I was a member of my local chapter of the American Meteorological Society community outreach committee, during which we would visit schools and teach students about meteorology. I really enjoyed this experience, and the GLOBE program would provide me with similar opportunities to inspire future scientists.”
UND recently became a GLOBE Partner institution with Atmospheric Sciences as lead department. We will be teaming initially with the Department of Teaching and Learning, with a focus on working with students in grades 5-12. Additional collaborations on campus and within the region are anticipated. Prof. Matt Gilmore is the Department of Atmospheric Sciences Partner Coordinator.
